Getting Started

Welcome! We hope you feel like you already know a bit about us. We have been doing this (consciously constructing our lives) for over 20 years and can attest to its power. This is very much a self-directed journey. We’ll be here to guide you to create something that works for you.

All it requires is commitment, whether you are doing this on your own or with a group. The only caveat to creating a group is to ensure that everyone has the same level of commitment; otherwise, it can be frustrating. Still this is no excuse to not start or continue to do it on your own.

This is what you need to do before January 1:
* reflect on what you want for yourself
* find your 2024 journal
* choose an oracle card deck
* pick your word for 2024

As well, it’s helpful to assemble a wee
Wild Woman Kit - some nice pens/ultra fine markers, a glue stick, tape, stickers, scissors, an envelope or folder to keep images you might want to paste into your journal. You might also want to include stickers, washi tape, and some magazines to clip images from.

Reflect
To start each year of planning, we like to reflect on the past year noting the accomplishments, disappointments, growth, and gratitudes. That gives us an idea of where we want to head in the new year.

Journals
We have experimented with many different journals since our circle began. Most years we have all used the same journal, until they go out of print and are no longer available. In recent years, we have selected journals that mostly closely meet our individual needs and preferences. This year though we are going back to all using the same journal and have found one that is created by a woman from the GTA. We haven’t received it yet so we can’t provide any further comment just yet.

Things to consider when selecting a journal:
How do you intend to use it? As a calendar to keep track of events or more as a diary and notebook?
Paper quality - we like to use different pens and markers in our journals so a matte finish is preferable to a shiny paper finish.
To collage or not to collage - we love adding images to our journals so we like those that have some blank pages and room to make notes, write out gratitudes, etc.
Prompts - even though we’ve been doing this for a while, we all still enjoy a journal with prompts that help us to reflect on our journey for a particular moon cycle.
Binding - because we like to add things to our journal we need ones that will easily expand. That is why spiral bindings work best for us.
And we usually end up tying a pretty ribbon around it or affixing a colourful elastic band to keep it all together.
Cost - you can pay a lot for journals though it is not necessary. We have found perfect ones at Costco for under $20.

Oracle Cards
Like Tarot cards, Oracle cards are tools that help us on our spiritual journey. While they are similar to tarot cards, which contain 78 cards and have specific meanings and structure, Oracle cards come with  booklets that describe the cards meaning so they are ideal for anyone  new to using them.
From the beginning, we have used the Sacred Path cards though recently we have begun to experiment with other decks.
Here’s an
article describing and rating some popular card decks. Trust your intuition in choosing a deck that’s right for you. It might be tempting to purchase multiple decks but we suggest you start with one.

If you have a favorite journal or oracle cards, please hop over to our social media pages and share your suggestions. We also invite you to share your journey there as well. You never know how you might be inspired or inspire others.

Word of the Year
We have found that selecting one word to guide our year has been important to keep us focused. It is something we have been doing for several years and we’ve devoted a YOUR WORD page here on our website for this topic.

Our Group

For our group of 4, we set aside December 27th-29th each year. During those days we say goodbye to the old year and prepare for the new year. Our time together looks like this...

1) Look through our journal from this year and make a list of 13 most important gratitudes and make note of things we are proud of and things we choose to carry into the new year to do-over or actually do. We share these with each other. That ends our old year. It's a time to celebrate. There might even be some champagne.

2) Choose our word for the coming year. We often come with an idea now that we have been doing this for so long. And we sometimes choose to keep the word we used this year. This can take quite a while - often "trying on" the word to see if it really fits before we commit.

3) We set goals for the year - some categories might be; personal work, relationship work, creativity, sacred, home, adventures, contribution

4) We flip through magazines and look for images that reflect our word - and ones that inspire us for the coming year. We add these to our journals using glue sticks or tape.

5) We choose an oracle card for the coming year to get us started and help us focus.

6) We make note in our journal calendars of shared dates we want to commit to. We make note of New Moon and Full Moon dates. We make plans to get together for Equinoxes and Solstices. We choose a "Wild Women Gathering" date when we will get together for a number of days at some point during the year. And we mark December 27th-29th for our year end gathering - a whole year away.

So there you go…some ideas to get you started on this journey. Our website will continue to evolve over the coming weeks, with some additional information you might find helpful. We are thrilled by the interest and we are confident that with commitment and action you will experience meaningful shifts in your life over the coming year.

Thanks for being brave and open to trying this.

Love,
Butterfly Heart, Donkey Soul Sister, Red Moon Warrior, Star Woman
